We need your help to continue our mission in
providing computer skills to seniors
Dec. 10, 2011
Facts ...
We know that we are living in trying times.
We know that seniors turning 65 this year will begin receiving Social Security via direct deposit.

We know that seniors seek information on:
  • Health issues, complex prescriptions, safe drugs, drug usage
  • Financial matters, insurance, price checking
  • Legal issues, wills, trusts
  • Using social media, chat rooms, blogs, Facebook, sharing wisdom on-line
  • Communicating long distance with distant family and friends

We know that in some cases the trusted family or friend is not always available to
provide the information needed.
We know that skills to access the internet will be crucial to many senior's mere existence.
We know that providing computer skills to seniors will help them lead a more fulfilling life.

Our recent partnership with Prescription Discount Card is an example of SeniorNet making a difference. This discount card is on our website for all seniors and their families to use. Unfortunately, only those with access to technology and who have computer skills will benefit from this discount.

SeniorNet's operation and utility costs continue to rise just like everyone else's. However, we believe that the value we bring to thousands of seniors in local communities and on Indian Reservations across the country is truly worth the effort.

Please take a moment and help us in making a difference. A contribution from you will go directly to supporting and helping seniors become computer literate. You see the issue, you know this is a real problem for many of our seniors -- help us to help others.

Jerry Mathers
Jerry Mathers from Leave it to Beaver

You hear about social media just about everywhere you go - there's no escaping it! And, believe it or not, it's not just for kids anymore. Golden Girl Betty White re-launched her career using Facebook, Jerry Mathers, aka "The Beaver," is tweeting about how to live a longer and healthier life (even with diabetes), and an elderly couple's "Webcam 101" video goes viral on YouTube, making them instant Internet sensations.

The numbers don't lie. According to Pew Internet & American Life Project, social media use among Internet users ages 50 and older has nearly doubled - from 22% to 42% over the past year. Half (47%) of Internet users ages 50-64 and 26% users age 65 and older now use social media.
