Joe Lucas Nominated for Mature and Magnificent Award, August 2006 PDF Email

Joseph S. Lucas was honored August 20th 2006 by Senior Citizens Inc. for his untiring work with the Knowles Computer Program. Joe was a finalist for the Mature and Magnificent Award in the Multiplicity Category. The Multiplicity group honored those that do many activities on behalf of others. There were four categories and four finalists in each category.

Joe started working with the computer program in 1993. At that time the computer program was teaching DOS and Windows 3.1. Joe has been the Coordinator since 1995. Joe has worked hard to keep up with the computer progress. Joe has also taken in used computers, refurbished them for sale to raise funds for the computer program. Joe has been in charge of keeping the classroom computers up and running in good operating condition. Joe is Coordinator, Instructor, Coach, and Lab manager. Joe keeps the Knowles Senior Activity Center Web site ( updated with the current and upcoming class schedule.

To keep up with technology Joe spends many hours a week reading technical magazines, and searching the internet. He has been a member of the Nashville Area PC users group for fifteen years. He also receives emails form experts that help him to grow his knowledge base.

Joe has also taught his daughters and granddaughters to repair cars, change there own oil, etc.

Joe as an Amateur Radio operator (during the 1970's) once relayed a message to the local emergency rescue squad and saved a family of four that were in an airplane that crash. Because of his quick action and a fellow amateur who saw the plane coming down the rescue squad was on site with one minute of the crash.
